About the Bolton Trust

The Bolton Trust encourages and promotes new business enterprise in Ireland. We are an independent voluntary trust actively committed to assisting people create sustainable business.

The Bolton Trust was established in 1986 by staff of the Dublin Institute of Technology, and currently has over 200 members. This membership is largely drawn from the various disciplines of DIT, Ireland's largest third-level technological Institute, and also from Ireland's entrepreneurial community. The expertise of the Trust can be mobilised to help budding entrepreneurs to create new business enterprise.

Bolton Trust Milestones 1987 - 2007

1987 Bolton Trust Ltd is set up by a group of academic staff of the DIT to assist in 'developing a synergic and supportive environment in which young entrepreneurs cluster together'.
1989 Powerhouse opens in the former Pigeon House Hotel. This was home to 25 businesses from 1989 to 1999.
1990 High Skills Pool - The Bolton Trust recognised the valuable resource that the Irish graduates who had left Ireland and found success elsewhere were. HSP helped many of these Graduates find jobs back in Ireland in the late 1990's.
1992 Bolton Trust Student Enterprise Competition - We have seen the standard of this initiative rise each year. In 2006 one of the finalists went on to win the Enterprise Ireland National Student Enterprise Competition.
1993 to 1998 National New Business Ideas Competition (in conjunction with the Gay Byrne Radio Show) - Every year hundreds of New Business Ideas were reviewed by Members of the Bolton Trust. The Bolton Trust hosted Business Planning and Marketing Workshops for over 50 companies per annum.
1995 to 2001 Small Enterprise Seed Fund Over twenty companies secured Seed Funding from the BES Funds that continue to be managed by the Bolton Trust.
1999 Bolton Trust acquires Docklands Innovation Park. The Park was only 50% occupied when it was acquired. An extensive programme of renovations and upgrading of facilities has led to full occupancy and a vibrant environment for early stage companies. The Trust provides incubator space to the 32 companies that complete the PDC Hothouse Programme annually.
2003 Bolton Trust launches the Docklands Innovation Park Enterprise Awards for companies based or incubating in the Park. This Award has a first prize of €10,000. Previous winners are Allergy Standards Ltd, Sigmoid Technologies Ltd, Glantreo Ltd, Ripple Solutions Ltd and Openplain Ltd.
